Lovely stakeholder people!

Weare about to do another fundraising day with Razoo — they are sponsoriong GivingTuesday on December 3, a day of nonprofit support after Black Friday and CyberMonday. Donations raised that day will make the Center for Sex & Culture eligible for prizes that can boost our overall earnings, and that will help get us ready to begin the New Year on a more fiscally stable footing.
Can you help? Whether you Facebook it, Tweet about it, or send to your own mailing list of lovely people, we would SO appreciate your helping us spread the word that donations on Tuesday will help us get cookin’ on our new year of programming and operations.
Here’s that URL:
We thank you so very much for your ongoing support and co-creation at CSC, and for helping us out with this! We have a page of proposed tweets if you’d like to see and use any of them — just let me know.
Here’s to another year of sex and culture!
xoxox—CQ and all your friends at CSC

PS — Happy Thanksgiving yesterday! We are thankful for YOU and all you do to help us make the Center for Sex & Culture vision real!

CSC book of the day. The Divine Androgyne by Purusha: Adventures in Cosmic Erotic Ecstacy and Androgyne Bodyconciousness by Purusha. This book has some interesting spiritual insight. And some really hot photos. Remember to visit us CSC Librarians on Monday.

Taken from YF+MA (Your Face + My Ass / sometimes Your Ass + My Face), a most incredible zine that I just started reading and that is in our zine library now. It’s published by Kevin, Jeff Subhoosier, Vi, DogShitJohnLaux. YF+MA keeps sex revolutionary and political without making it boring…that is hard…and makes other things hard. The quote is taken from The Faggots And Their Friends Between Revolutions. I forgot to mention that this fabulous zine was donated by the infamous Larry-Bob of Holy Titclamps!. Thanks Larry! You’re a hero here at CSC.
We will definitely be bringing it to our zine panel this coming saturday. Don’t miss it. Send Us Your Sick And Twisted.

From Russia with love ⇢

"In the wake of Putin’s anti-homosexual propaganda legislation, Russia’s LGBT community have fought back with The Moscow Experimental School for Gender Studies which opened on 2 August. Its aims are to introduce contemporary Russian society to gender studies and feminist theory, as well as issues such as pornography, sex work and queer art, subjects which are not considered appropriate or important enough to provoke serious discussion in the public domain.”

DIRECTOR’S CHAIR: Interview with Fruit Punch Productions ⇢

If you need some new good queer porn in your collection, you have got to check out Fruit Punch Productions. And they are obviously lovely people, but don’t just believe me, read the interview !

And they give a sticky shout out to our friends and queer porn veterans Courtney Trouble, Handbasket Productions, and Crash Pad !

Naughty Zinesters!

There is quite the sensual reading this Saturday evening at Rock, Paper Scissors in the East Bay. I encourage all those with steamy, literary tendencies to attend. And if you have extra time, I always encourage anyone in downtown Oakland to see Feelmore 510, one of the best sex stores in the Bay Area. I know you already heard of it, and if you haven’t been, you’re planning on going. So go, and then come listen to some erotica. Check out Feelmore’s tumblr, and support safe local sex.

Shilo McCabe’s “I Masturbate” collection will be at CSC!

Shilo McCabe, a queer feminist photographer, is the founder of the Sex Positive Photo Project.  This May she will be showcasing her work at the Centre for Sex and Culture in San Francisco.  This show will feature 30 large images, including brand new pieces, from her “I Masturbate” collection; a series of photos and personal stories about the personal joy and sexual freedom her subjects experience through masturbation. Shilo is a documentary photographer, and her goal is for the audience to see authentic, non-fetishized  images of people just like themselves: no matter their body type/size, no matter their sexuality, no matter their kink, no matter the shade of their skin.
This is sure to be an amazing show and an incredible experience! Fundraising is currently underway for this project at http://www.indiegogo.com/shilomccabe and there are some great perks available for donors (including prints, limited edition monographs, and even a credit for a photo session with Shilo herself!).  Stop by her indiegogo site and consider making a donation, and be sure to visit the show at the Center for Sex and Culture this May!
What Shilo has said about this project:
while speaking on a sex-positive panel at Mills College I was asked if I had any tips for becoming more sex-positive.  Without hesitation I said “Masturbate!” Everyone laughed at my response and I realized later that I really had much more to say on the subject.

Reducing the stigma around masturbation is important because we are a culture of mixed messages - there is no unilateral message about masturbation…”

What people are saying about masturbation:

I masturbate because I never have to worry about being too much for myself. I have a high libido and a lifetime of conditioning has made me self-conscious about being too intense, too hungry, too sexual, too wet, or too kinky for even my most enthusiastic and generous lovers.”

"Masturbation gives me some of my best orgasms. I love it for the orgasms alone, but I also do it to relieve pain, leg cramps, cranky moods, anxiety, and to help me get to sleep."

The Center for Sex and Culture’s Grace Alley Mural Project on Offbeatr: Looking to raise $2000 by December 22nd 2012 for public art celebrating San Francisco’s past sexual renegades, founders, activists, and healers.

http://offbeatr.com/project/grace-alley-mural-project-10161016955

The Center for Sex & Culture is in the process of conceptualizing and creating a public art project, the Grace Alley Mural Project, to be featured on the exterior of the Center for Sex & Culture building on the wall at Grace Alley.  We have a team of our very own notorious (and not-so-notorious) muralists prepared to collaborate on this Mural, a highlight of San Francisco’s sexual history and culture.  Our group of talented artists includes Eddie CollaFinley CoylAmandalynn, and Éclair Acuda Bandersnatch.  Their work on Grace Alley will pay homage to our city’s past sexual renegades, founders, activists and healers.

The Mural will be situated amidst nightlife, non-profits, neighborhood residential and mixed commerce — but it’s also a location in need of beautification to our Public Spaces.  It will emphasize the good work of non-profit organizations centered around sex, enhance the good work we are doing here and let the surrounding community know we are an organization that plans to stay and grow in this neighborhood.  The Mural will be a celebration of sex-positivity, knowledge and the work San Francisco has pioneered and achieved on behalf of sexual health, education and openness.

This Mural is a true labor of love — for sex, the community and the sex community, but we ask for your financial support to make this loving project really happen.  Specifically, your monetary donations would help toward the rental of electric scissor lifts (to be used to physically elevate the artists as they work on the wall), artists’ commissions and project supplies.  Any contributions you may be able to provide toward that estimation will be deeply cherished!

To see more images of the Grace Alley Mural Project follow us on Facebook, visit our Tumblr, or come see it in person at 1349 Mission Street in San Francisco, but we need your donations to fill this wall with art.
